Does anyone remember canning road at the crowland street end?i lived at 101 and remember ted and mary angolopolus,jean and tom quinn,ann and dennis willliamson,kath and aubrey martin,mr ormerod,mr and mrs naul,mrs morris,mrs prescott and alice firth.
nice place to live in the 70's - dead quiet apart from the whistling of the gasometers!field opposite was good playground and i pretty much knew all the neighbours.shame how things change - last time i passed it was a lot more built up and didn't look quite so good as i remember - but there again i thought the bay city rollers were great then too.
hello dean wiliamson if you're reading - we were friends for a long time and spent hours skating up and down with a roller skate each....

Tommy Quinn was a friend of my dad's - they shared an interest in trains.

Selena Barton lived two or three houses from Crowland Street junction on the gas works side...that was in the 1950s.... she worked at Mulliners barley suger factory in Norwood Road. She was a sunday school teacher at All Souls Infants and brought in broken bits of barley suger for the kids birthdays etc.

Mrs Prescott was my nan, she passed away at the end of last year, shortly before her 101 birthday. My other nan also lived next door to her for a long time

i knew Danny Prescott very well, i think it's the same family. Canning road has been covered very comprehensively in one of the older threads.

Dennis Williamson is my uncle..they moved to Palmerston Road from Canning Road..then onto Churchgate..

im sure it was 101 where my sister in law lived in the early eighties patrica & david he was a bus driver they had 2 girls & a boy

I know Dean Williamson - Deano! He lives off Haig Ave now. I asked him today if he remembers skating on one skate but of course Grimpner, I don't know your name.

it's julie armstrong ! how's dean ? we had some great times and only lost touch when he moved to palmerston road.i moved to moss road in the 80's after my mum and dad sold the house to patricia and david.

Danny also sadly passed away a few years back. Sheila and Peter are still alive

I lived round the corner in Crowland St in the 1950s & 60s. Names I remember from Canning Rd were Mrs Prescott (but I can't put the face to the name - did she have the garden that had lots of model houses in?); Kath Mills (who may have become Kath Martin) she had a daughter Carol who was a couple of years older than me and lived with her grandparents next to the coal field in Crowland St; Johnny Sutton who had a grandson called John Patey who went to Norwood Rd with me; Mr & Mrs Norris and their daughters Eileen and Sandra - "Taff" Norris worked at Hollands Toffee, used to keep chickens and brew his own rhubarb wine in big tubs; Tommy Wareing, who scandalised the neighbourhood when his wife left him and he then lived "over the brush" with his new lady friend. Around the corner in Crowland St lived Kenny Moore and his brother; the Tresardens - mum & dad, Peter, John, Jimmy, Rose, Carol, & David (how did they all fit into a 2 up 2down?); Des & Olga Sutton + son Ray; Ron & Peggy Stanbrook + John McCarthy & Mrs McCarthy + Susan & Diane; Mr & Mrs Blundell + son "Sonny"; then at various times Ken & Yvonne Dowler; Frankie & Jackie (?) Day; Mr & Mrs Hammond; Margaret & Ronnie Scott + son Philip.
According to his autobiography Marc Almond lived at one of those houses in the 1970s with his mum.

Flyp- I remember John Patey in the same class as me at Norwood Rd. Perhaps you could remember a few more names from that class?

Wasn't Norman Patey - who wasn't quite a full shilling - from the same family?

When i was there in the 70's thee was Georg and Jackie Cripps on Crowland Street as well as Margaret and Joe Foley and their 3 kids. I remember the Treseden's but think that Mrs Treseden might have died. Taffy Norris!!!That brings back memories - and their little dog,Blackie.I remember the Martin's well as I used to go there for change for the meter when ours ran out...busy house with lots of kids as I remember.Fancy Marc Almond living on Crowland Street?My friend Robina lived there with her Mum and brother Geoff Lewis.Sounds funny when you go there now but it really was an idyllic place to grow up and everyone looked out for each other-not quite the Hovis ad but just a nice community.

Aubrey Martin wasnt he the caretaker of the Red Triangle Club in Hawthorne Grove?

Organist - I wasn't in the same class as John Patey so I can't help with names. I think he had a younger brother Ben.

I've found the attached photo of some of those mentioned in this thread. At the back is Fred "Taff" Norris holding his daughter Eileen. His elder daughter Sandra is also on there along with John, Peter and Jimmy Treseden, and Donald Walmsley (Barry's younger brother). I'm the one at the front in the "bib and brace" overalls.

The photo was taken in the late fifties on the field opposite the junction of Canning Road and Corwland Street as I recall.

knew the tresedens and remember the mills family.spent many hours playing round the crowland street area,my nan alice peat lived there.remember the tiny shop there, used to buy sweets when my nan gave me money .
