Having not lived in Southport for many years it's probly not far off thirty years since I last paid a visit to Victoria Park so I'm not too sure of the area you mean. I looked on Google Earth which didn't really help.
All I can say is the tracks went straight through the area now occupied by the supermarket and swimming baths. The site occupied by the railway was quite substantial and included a fairly large goods marshalling yard.

Do you think that's really wise?

I think you are talking about Weld Rd where the road went over a bridge across the railway immediately under Weld Rd the platform of Birkdale Palace Station started and stretched towards Ainsdale. The Railway ran where the caravan club now site their caravans on the seaward side of Victoria Park.

Do you know what the buildings to the north of the Palace Hotel are ? Today, the site is occupied by Beach Proiry Gardens.
Human beings make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders they have managed to invent boredom?
