Warning
Be very carefull when walking and driving today.
Many people have fallen over around the portland street / king street area.
If you are a shop keeper please salt in front of your shop
I have noticed that we are in the midst of an ICE STORM in Southport.
this is when the rain is like damp air, it falls to the ground splashes and instantly freezes,. It is invisible!
I have seen this happen hundreds of time in the USA but very unusual in England. It brings cities to a stand still in the states. Everywhere becomes an ice rink.

The brick blocks and even the rubber mat outside my back door are terribly slippery today - I nearly fell when I stepped onto the rubber mat and was really apprehensive when my greyhound wanted to go down the garden for 'the usual'.
I held her collar to steady her and she walked there but when she had performed she ran back to the door and my heart was in my mouth in case she fell - those spindly, gangly legs are so vulnerable - she already has a steel pin in one foot!

Apart from last year the exception, southport does not get any snow. forecast says its too cold to snow, makes me laugh that saying, so it freezing and we get rain here in southport, but snow everywhere else

For the last two years in fact...:-) A foot of snow fell on the evening of December 17th, 2010, while the previous year snow and ice lay on roads and pavements for weeks from about seven to 10 days before Christmas, because Sefton council failed to grit properly.

And thats it. As Ianb said, Southport generally doesnt get snow.
