Local Charity to Help Isolated People
Sefton Carers Centre has developed befriending services to be accessed across Sefton, to support people who may be socially isolated. The befriending services aim to match individuals who require the service with suitable volunteers who will then meet with them to have a friendly chat and to offer companionship and support. Petra McCauley, Coordinator at Sefton Carers Centre said ‘There are sections of our communities that are at risk of becoming socially isolated, this includes older people, people with disabilities and/or their carers.
We want to help them! We believe that nobody should experience loneliness and we are committed to developing a service that minimises it. The idea is to bring people in the local community together, to help each other out, and we feel that it will be a very rewarding experience for both the person in need and those who volunteer to help.’ Volunteers To make the service work Sefton Carers Centre need to recruit a volunteer workforce of friendly local people who like to mix with others and have a good natter. They are hosting a coffee morning at the Community Service Station, Scarisbrick Avenue, Southport on Friday 10th February, between 10am and 12noon, for anybody who is interested in volunteering to drop in and find out more!
