At the end of an Ofsted Inspection last week Birkdale Academy, whos motto is "Only the Best will do" were deemed to be "Inadequate with Special Measures" This must come as a huge blow to the Headteacher Gary Loveridge and to the Governing Body just 4 months into their Academy status. Three years ago the school was a "good school with outstanding features"
The inspection should be available to the parents 10 working days after the Inspection and 15 working days on the Ofsted website.
Below is a link to a presentation given to people by the school to persuade them to accept Academy status. It all seems so very long ago now.

How very sad. It does ask a question about Academy status; had the LA been involved would this have happened?
However, you have to question the ethics of an Ofsted inspection that takes place on the last week of any term ,let alone Christmas. The kids must have been hyper! Feel really sorry for the general staff there. Teachers work extremely hard.

What a shame for the pupils who have only one chance of a good education;
of little consequence it needed a good clean when I went round but that may be a clue to the lowering of standards.

Sack the Head and the Governors I say. They have demonstrated that they arent fit to run a school if this is the case.
All we have heard from them is the fact that Academy status was going to be all sweetness and light. Well the parents have been sold a pup.
Wouldnt surprise me now if you had some Private Company vulture circling looking to pick up the scraps from this rushed debacle.
By the way theres a little porkie on their slide show. They dont "own" the land. Its leased. Naughty.

Sack the head only gone downhill since Barker left

If the presentation is the standard that they are teaching now no wonder they are in trouble, All those IT teachers and it looks like it was thrown together by Dick and Dom!!

Well I don't even think they would of had to ask a Teacher to create a professional looking Presentation. - As most of the pupils would of been able to throw something together blindfolded!
But over all I feel the school has let its strong discipline routines drop. - I have a younger brother who attends the school, and he agrees that the standards have dropped. - Students are able to get away with much more than anybody would of when I was there.

What was the exact date of the inspection?
Did it finish on Friday?

That pps is awful beyond belief looks like chimp from the zoo has done it the pictures are absoutly nothing to do with the presentation

How on earth can a school with outstanding results in certain departments, namely English and mathematics, be placed in Special Measures????? If this is true then the Head and Chair of Governors MUST use this website because they are the two people who are totally accountable for such a debacle. I reserve judgement until I see it officially, because IF this is true then the words 'truly incompetent' come to mind!! http://www.writeexpress.com/resignation.htm

I am deeply concerned that the good name of Birkdale might be besmirched throughout the land as a result of this apparent fall from grace. I worry, too, for the reputation of the former Birkdale High School for Girls, which has also gone down the track of 'lucre before livre'.

It will be interesting to see how the school reacts

What a resounding success for the new academy system as decreed by the chinless wonder Michael Gove.
Amazing that the fears of those opposed to this scheme are seeing their fears realised so quickly, the school should be lose its academy status and be returned to LA control now, the education of children is more important than the plans of deluded MPs and ego driven head teachers and governors.
