Beer lorry stuck on Southport Pier

A Fosters Beer lorry making a delivery to Southport Funland became stuck on Southport Pier at approximately 10:00am this morning (Friday 19th August 2011).

The Pier planks broke under the vehicle's weight leaving the lorry resting on its axles.

The Pier entrance was closed until mid afternoon. Johnsons Recovery from Banks removed the vehicle from the scene.

    There were no injuries involved.

I think, as compensation for breaking our beloved pier, we should be given a free pint or two, maybe three

What an absolute idiot to go on the pier with that wagon, I hope that he/his company are well insured as they should have to pay for the damage - plank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shows you how shoddily made the pier was!! this won't last a 100 years,be lucky if it makes 50! there are many loose planks, warped planks and rust already on the metalwork framing underneath and more than a few tins of hammerite will put right. very sad

The plank. Do they normally park on there? The tram must weigh a bit but then the load is dispersed via the rails.

Why should his company have to pay for his stupidity? I think consequently he should be sacked for driving illegally on the pier and on top of that be ordered to pay the full cost of the repairs out of HIS money. I'm sure some people feel sorry for him, unfortunately the "feelings and the feeling sorry" has to be pushed to one side and he needs to be punished so that it makes the next person think twice before carrying out a stupid maneuver.

Where there's no punishment or consiquence, there's no improvement!!!!!
