'On The Fringe' at the Shakespeare Opening Night Success
Well known Southport venue 'The Shakespeare' on Scarisbrick New Road has been refurbished and rebranded as 'On the Fringe at The Shakespeare' and is now open to the public under complete new management.

The opening evening was held last night and was a huge success. The night saw performances from a pianist, singing and a live band.

'On the Fringe' is a local pub with a difference, with the theme concentrating on art, comedy, live music, poetry and theatre. 'On the Fringe' will be the only pub in Southport to have it's own impressive theatre upstairs in the venue that will be showing plays on a regular basis.

On Saturday 10th September entertainment continues with a Rehearsed reading of Richard 3rd starting at 7.45pm and Liverpool band "coffee and cake for funerals" And then on Wednesday 14th to Friday 16th the hilarious comedy "The Vagina Monologues"

Good to see it looking so bright and airy, all the best for the future.
On another note have they got rid off all the unsightly weeds around the front and side of the outside yet? I used to do grounds maintenance and spray weeds as part of the job,and it pains me to walk past buildings with virtual weed forests growing up the walls as if they are invisible to the owners.

Are they going to have more down to earth acts for normal people or is it going to be 'arty farty' stuff?
I like listening to musicians and stand up comics and appreciate art greatly, but I can't stand protentious artsy stuff. I just don't get performance 'arts' most of the time, unless it's comedy. Even 'Artistic' comedians are complete junk most of the time.
I like the sound of the new Shakey as long as artsy fartsy isn't shoved in my face. :)
(P.S. Nothing arty farty in the pics, so that's good.)
