The sign welcoming visitors to Southport at the Plough Roundabout proclaims past awards for Southport as a floral resort. The sign is now surrounded by weeds and is in need of some tender loving care.

Meols ward area committee have funds that could be used to plant out these flower beds if any organisation etc would be prepared to help or sponsor.Permission must be sought from Sefton Council to work on the highway. This is the entrance to Southport from the North and does not give a good impression of our town to tourists etc.

We could plant Peter Dowd and Mark Dowd with David Laws as a center piece. ;-)

Why bother with this sign, all it says to people is that we haven't won anything for four years, and it's eleven years since we won anything decent.
I think it's a bit like Liverpool FC fans going on about their glorious history without having any hope for winning anything in the future!!!

I think Southport has become run down dirty, poorly maintained and litter strewn place that is a shadow of its former self. There is no pride and the town looks like a sad and dreary monument.
Whatever happened to the Victorian vision that made it such a quaint and vibrant resort to visit?
