can anyone help identify the street this house is on please? it IS in Southport.

I have posted this in the past section but was hoping for a quicker response if possible, the picture below was taken just after WW1 at a hodson family wedding.
What's driving me crazy is that I grew up in Part street and remember passing this house daily even remember the colour of the external paintwork ( red/burgundy), but for the life of me I cant remember where it is,

thought it may have been part street,Talbot or Duke street, is there a way of searching for house names at all tried searching via google maps, even thought it could be on Hollybrook road, but google maps wont go down there grr might have to jump in car to go see.
am i losing the plot,Oh Yeah, i think i am!!

What or who is your source for the photograph as this may provide additional information?

If it was used for a wedding reception, it was probably a hotel or boarding house - Southport was a popular destination in those days...

    Nothing via Google search...

There are any number of houses with doorways just like that.... even looking at the bigger picture it is still too unremarkable to make a definitive judgement.

Not if you could see it 'straight on'!

That pic is taken off Google Earth but I can't get a straight on view because of the trees in the garden.

Pretty standard design for the era...

Am I not right in thinking, in the original picture, is the building name not painted into the glass above the door? I can't see close enough but maybe someone else can?

I suspect there is a clue in the writing on the bottom right corner. Do you have a higher resolution (bigger) image?

If you double left click on the original photo and open it in a new browser window, you can then use Ctrl and + or Ctrl and Scroll Wheel to enlarge the image.

The writing appears to be a surname followed by Southport, which would suggest a wedding photographer...

If you know it is a 'Hodson' marriage have you thought about looking in the old Visiters (you can find the year/quarter from freebmd.co.uk or if you have the marriage certificate checking the addresses of the bride/groom to see if it was a family home?

Cheers, I tried it in photoshop but the resolution is too low for it to scale to a visible size.

I tried that too but the resolution wasn't good enough to enlarge any further or even enough to read the signature.

    Unhappy

well don't I feel silly, but we may be closer to figuring this out, this is the original thread, on a different website than I originally thought( which is why i couldn't find it again) doh!.

    see page two
A nmfhs member ( they are all really helpful ) just found this for me, Just after turning into Weld Rd there is, on the lefthand side, Priory Gardens. In 1914 the Seed's Southport Directory shows it to be between numbers 30 and 32 Weld Rd. It consisted of four houses numbered 1 to 4. Number 2 Priory Gardens was named Hazeldene!!!.

There were lots of street name changes and on the 1861 census Hodson relatives of mine were noted to be living at 2 Gambier Terrace (when Gambier Terrace is entered into google maps it brings up Priory Gardens as Gambier Terrace) A trip out in the car is required to check as trees are in the way yet again on google.
The member who originally posted the pic hasn't been on there in over a year so will have to wait until they reply to their pm

Do you think it is the house on the corner of Portland street opposite the Edenfield home.?
Using google map the house number is an estimate.

The pic on the 'roots' website is a mirror image, if you look at the name above the doorway.
