I actually remember the news footage of the Vietnamese girl running down the road,it was shown at tea time on the 6 o clock news. How times have changed.I'm sure there's moving footage of the Vietcon prisoner being shot.I'm sure i remember that being shown on the news as well.I was so young but how could i forget it after seeing it happen? How times have changed,i doubt they would show it now?
I remember witnessing this incident below on the news at the age of 19 and bursting into tears at the footage shown. I found it so shocking, distressing and disturbing that it has never left me. However, it think it is right that such images are shown. I'd rather that than us become indifferent or disaffected by dumbed down reporting, but remain to be shocked by the horrors of war, any war.
The corporals killings was the killing of corporals David Robert Howes and Derek Tony Wood,[1] two British Army soldiers of the Royal Corps of Signals killed on 19 March 1988 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The non-uniformed soldiers were killed by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), after they drove into the path of the funeral procession of an IRA volunteer.[2] Three days beforehand, loyalist gunman, Michael Stone had attacked an IRA funeral and killed three people. Believing it to be another loyalist attack, dozens of bystanders attacked the soldiers' car. During this, Corporal Wood brandished a gun and fired a shot in the air. The soldiers were then dragged from their vehicle, driven to nearby waste ground, stripped and shot dead.[3]
Because it was fully captured by television cameras, the incident has been described as one of the "most dramatic and harrowing images" of the conflict in Northern Ireland.[1]
There is a light and it never goes out.

I am sure that I remember this as a piece of newsreel film, not a photograph. Without being too graphic, I remember seeing blood, and the victim falling to the floor.

I just checked it out, a TV film crew recorded the event, as the photo was being taken, quite horrific to say the least.

Context is a wonderful thing however that's a good response Don't wish to hijack this otherwise quite interesting thread with football talk any more.

He helped them in, and watch it take off, as he did with other Apollo missions.
It happened.
I have not said his surname, as that is private IMO.

I agree with that Mr the edge
But you must remember Mr Smythe is old news
and Vanman thinks Everton are doing great.
I have just been talking at lunch with Jack Rodwell he says his leg is doing fine after his rest in Dubie it has done him the world of good and Everton are going to be in the FA Cup final.

I don't think shocking images should be hidden from the world; in first-world countries we're often shielded from the truly horrific things which happen elsewhere, and I think it can only be a positive thing if we're made aware of just how brutal life can be. Does that make it art? I don't know. To me, any photograph is art if it's stirring in some way; regardless of how shocking it may be.
I've always been fascinated by crime-scene photography. The images are often brutal, but the care and attention to detail is astounding. Life isn't a pretty place full of smiling bunny rabbits and endless rainbows, and the darker side of human nature shouldn't be shoved away in a box somewhere.
What always struck me about the photos of the Afghani girl is that her eyes are possibly the most beautiful I've ever seen. They're such simple photographs, yet capture human expression and emotion perfectly. That's art. Capturing a moment, however happy or sad, is art.
Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Remember how she said that
We would meet again
Some sunny day?
Vera, Vera
What has become of you?
Does anybody else here
Feel the way I do?

... shocking or art?.. think this photo has become 'quiet iconic' of the riots?
Cogito, facio, Fio!!!
