Langs Lord St Closed
I see Langs Restaurant at the top of Lord St has closed down. When did that happen. I think they may have over extended themselves. Theres a new one in Longton I see.

Longton is doing very well and is much bigger than Botanic. Never really believed the Pasta Grill place fitted - increasing polarisation - people want cheap or want "treat places". Pasta and Grill was in the middle ground against chain brand competitors far more open to having offers.
Botanic/Langs Bistro and Langs of Longton (in Little Hoole) all fit "treat places" in my opinion. He still has his Bentley so can't be doing too bad.

I need to get my eyes tested, always thought it was Longs

So what? Nearly every company leases their cars as it generally makes much more sense.
EDIT: If he didn't keep up his repayments (I'm working on the possibility that you are actually correct about it being on HP) it would be repossessed, so him still having it indicates that he has a good enough cashflow to allow for it.
The only good system is a sound system.

As Mr H said above, so what if it is on HP?
From what I have seen of him he seems like a nice enough chap, seems to treat his staff well and is always pleasent.
Good luck to him.
(before anyone says anything, nope I don't know him, nor am I associated with him or the business in any way shape of form)
I'm the type of person that upon my feet hitting the floor in the morning Satan says "oh Sh**e she's awake"

Nice enough guy, ive worked on his restaurants and his home when i was in the building trade.
I would guess that the Lord street place closed due to it not making much money, the positioning of it is poor, not much parking (other than Morrisons) and it being out of the way and in the firing line of Chiquitos, nandos, pizza hut, Franky & Bennies etc...
Not to mention what the rates must be on Lord street, even at that end!
The Longton one seems busy every time i pass it and must be a better location.
Personally i wish there where more restaurants in Southport ran by people who cared about their business and food quality as much as they do
Shame to lose a decent place, he should have bought the Old Bank when that was up for sale lol

Paul and his wife Claire work jolly hard and have built up several restaurants which are consistently good so if he wants to drive a lovely car good luck to him. There is a saying that "Opportunity comes disguised as hard work".The Langs at the end of Lord st has posters in the window of Jay the Masterchef finalist from Banks with Twinkle in large letters so maybe he is going to open a Restaurant there. (was driving past so couldn't see what the poster actually said).

Love the Botanic bistro but Langs on Lord St did seem to lack any cosiness or atmosphere, the food was still good though. Just my opinion.
-
I've been told that they wanted him to sign a ten year lease on the Lord St building and he did'nt want it for that long, so got out whilst he could, good move by Paul Lang if you ask me
Enough said
-
You are absolutely correct, Claire told me about the 10 year lease which is a big commitment during this economic climate for any business person.
-
Also it is a terrible position for a restaurant - I think every restaurant in that unit has struggled - no real passing trade etc
-
larger pubs with parking have gained a lot of the restaurnt cliental....

From what I'm told, resources were perhaps stretched a little too far, which is understandable in this case. If you have a successful business, you naturally want to expand.
There comes a point in your life when you realise who really matters, who never did and who always will.
"You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

I agree with you 100% Myrtle. That saying is spot on, too many people expect far too much from life without making any contribution themselves! Good luck to both Paul and Claire!

sorry to hear of any business closing down.
poor man or it may be a woman.
Opens a business and then decides to close it.
so what.
It does not mean he is a bad business man.
It may mean his customers have become bad business men themselves and now they can not afford his product.
MacDonald is full, they may be good business people, But I would rather have a failed restaurant business trying to serve good food than own a MacDonald.
If the business did fail.
Then it might have been down to the fact they did not use fine English Made China.
or PARKING
