A letter from Greenbank today stated that in two seperate incidents, (yesterday, and this morning) a man in a car approached the girls. The first was a man in a black car on scarisbrick new road yesterday at about 4pm. The second incident was approx 8.30am today by the rugby club on waterloo road,the car was silver and possibly a Ford. They did not go into detail, but we were alerted, and also had a letter sent home. Thought this definitely needed mentioning (if it has not already been) so the children can be vigilant.

Whilst not everyone is out to get children I think it's a little odd to be standing up for the 'rights' of the single man in a car approaching children...

The thing is, I'm sure the school would like to have more accurate information too. Whilst they are trying to establish the facts of what's actually gone on, I would rather they err on the side of caution and remind their pupils to be 'stranger wary'. Personally, I would never approach a school child to ask for directions or for any other reason for that matter whilst out in the car. I would always ask an adult instead. Children should never approach a stranger in a car, however innocent the query may seem.

Please be aware that I am not advocating that the schoolchildren shouldn't be aware of a possible danger, I just don't want them to be so paranoid that it affects their life.

There was also an incident on Thursday the 9th. Was there no description of one of the males on this letter you got?

remember when we were at school and teacher, or relatives would say 'don't talk to strangers' i don't see why that should change with youngsters nowadays.

it might 'over-scare' (sorry i know that's not a word) parents etc but in light of events following, maybe, the arrest of Patrick Lennon, they are , as has been suggested, erring on the side of caution.

As an aside, when Patrick Lennon gets out if I see him anywhere I'll accidentally on purpose do something to him, disgusting ************************* he was doing all that pervy stuff in 1982 when he taught me and my class.

Anyway the school are probs covering themselves too, I reckon

One of the incidents happened before the kids were off last week, (some) of the pupils were informed on the day after lunchtime registration, some were not! I have complained to the school as I think parents should have been warned much sooner, the acting Head has assured me that parents will now receive a text message, and we did yesterday and a letter sent home. Still a long time to wait for a warning though! I also emailed Q local it's still not on the news page! I will be taking my daughter and her friend to school and back from now on.

my daughter knows the girl who got stopped by this man apparently the first one on scarsbrick road this car followed the school bus and approched the girl and asked her if she wants a lift home.so the are not getting anyone worried just more vigilant walking to school, the police are aware of these incidents.

one of my cousins is a teacher at greenbank i'll ask her (albeit days late) if an announcement or anything has been made to classes or in assembly..just to re-affirm things.

Seriously? Why would you even bother? He taught thousands of girls and as far as we know didn't actually touch any of them. I spent many a day in his office after being naughty, I certainly wouldn't risk getting in trouble myself by going anywhere near him.

Surely if she had just got off the school bus she wouldnt be more than a few roads away from home anyway, kindof odd to offer a lift to someone after they get off the bus!

And have these girls not worked out how to read a reg plate, or take a photo of the car on their phone, makes all the difference if they have a reg.

I never said he did get 7 years for nothing. Your post sounds like you would do more than just have something to say to him though.

Its amazing how now its all come out what he was doing in his personal life, how every student recalls what a pervert he was. There's no denying he was rather odd at times, but if anyone had a hint of what he was up to why did they not report him? If you saw him perving up skirts then did you tell someone? I've heard so many reports since about parents who knew he was perving on their daughters. Why didn't they do something about it? Its all very well saying now it was obvious, but was it really!

I'm not in anyway sticking up for him or what he did, but I do suspect a lot of people are influenced by what they've read in the press. I can only talk for the 5 years I was there, and I never witnessed him doing anything inappropriate towards girls, and I assume I was there later than you were, had I done though I would have reported him. Hell, I was a right pain in the behind and would have spoken up for sure if he was drunk in class or leering at the girls.
