    Expect Delays!

There are over 3,000 people online right now, probably due to the tragic murder on Lonsdale Road. The site is starting to act up already, so there's a chance that shortly we may not be able to access it at all.

Thanks for the heads up, I suspect you are right as rumours are rife at the moment so people will be checking on here. It is all very sad.

Gawd, 3,000 concurrent users is nothing for a high-volume website. Next!

I was getting Server too busy notices nearly two hours ago, but it's much better now. No problem on the Visiter website.

interesting though that once information re, the tragedies was 'brought out' that so many peeps came to THIS website for information, updates on it.
Says a lot for the website and its popularity, just not a lot for server updates of which I have no clue. I just thought that the fact so many people came to Q speak volumes.

For a forum it is. For a news website it's small potatoes.

Really the only long-term solution is for Q to hire an applications developer who has in-depth experience of high throughput websites. The whole Q infrastructure needs to be built on a robust content management system that caches it's pages and the forums should be an integrated element of that CMS. Forum software (used to control everything at the moment) just isn't designed to serve a high volume of concurrent traffic and will always bottleneck.

vBulletin themselves know this as they also product CMS software (although it's far from the best of breed).

Server did peak at over 3,000 around noon and caused heavy load. After some server level memory caching parameter changes this seemed to cure the load at that level by 1:30pm and hopefully has been fine since.

The sad double murder story has already had over 22,500 views after going up 10pm last night.

I rarely switch off during the day, if I am in.... However I did today when helping hubby to do some work on the new 'hen shed'.

I wouldn't mind but we don't use that many eggs.... I guess I will have to start baking more often... when the chucks arrive and start laying!

Just so long as I don't need to have too close contact with them!
