North
Manchester High School's swing band playing today at the bandstand Lord
Street. The band was formed almost two years ago, since then they
have gone from strength to strength. Earlier this year the band was
invited to perform at the royal northern college of music showcase, the
Manchester jazz festival, BBC live programme where the venue was
Piccadilly Station ,Manchester and various other events both in the
community and at school (including the senior citizens Christmas party
where it has many fans and as accompaniment for school production
"Oliver"). The boys range in age from 11-16 and are ably
assisted by Malcolm Cockerill, David Smally, Clare Schumm, Phil Symonds
and Helen King. Left pic is David Neild on the sax. Right pic shows people
enjoying the music today at the bandstand Lord Street, Southport.

ROVING-EYE
wondered what was happening outside the Town Hall, picture left.
Fortunately, PEDOJA
has provided us with another pic, right, and some infomation as
follows. The Ice Dome was being demonstrated for Sefton Council and
other Town Centre Managers as a showcase, in the hope that we and they
will have one 'for real' at Christmas. An international ice skater gave a
demonstration, here seen pictured, right, with the Mayor of Sefton, and
Tony Corfield, Tourism Exec. |

Council workers picket old
folks home - Tuesday 19th June 2001 |
|

|
These
ladies were picketing outside a Council run home in Birch St today.
The Council want to close the homes and move the residents to other
places. This means the staff will lose their jobs and the old folks will
lose what they regard as their home.

Lifeboat need your help - Sunday 10th June 2001 |
|

|

|
|
Roving-eye
reports that the Lifeboat Station by Pleasureland are always looking for
volunteers for a variety of jobs. A couple of hours a week is often all
they ask. The station is funded entirely by donations. Upstairs at the
station is the control center which has views out to sea and all the
equipment to manage a rescue. The Lifeboat is towed out to sea by
tractor and trailer. The trailer was built by one of the crew. |

Crimewatch filming in Leyland Road - Friday 8th June 2001 |
|

|

|
|
The BBC were filming in
Leyland Road for Crimewatch UK, due to be screened on June 20th. 92
year old Mary Hancock was mugged on April 19th at around 2:40 pm and died
a few weeks later as a result of her injuries. All for £10 she had in her
purse. Hopefully the reconstruction will give the police vital new
information to assist in their enquiries. Mrs Hancock’s attacker is
described as white, 20 years, of heavy build with straight, blonde hair
and not an attractive female. |
