Preparation
started for the British Firework display at Princess Park. £1,000's worth
of fireworks will be in the sky over Marine Lake later tonight.

Southport street festival is a big hit this year and these pictures prove
it.
The " ZEHARA"
Girls perform their party theme at the Bandstand. Tilia Theatre peform the
1940 war theme UXB. Superb sand sculpture of a horse, some wacky
pavement drawings and finally, Paul Strange & Mike Howl perform at the
Bandstand as "RODNEY & CHARLES"

update 21/8/01 by onthespot. Workmen say that the flooring will be
completed by December? Pictures of workmen today laying the wooden
flooring, pictures of end of pier and metal work, views from pier
etc.
Pedoja
adds, "I was told on Saturday that they have nearly reached the
target figures for the Buy a Pier Plank scheme. These Planks will be laid,
I am assured, during November. Has southport.gb.com purchased a Plank for
posterity?". Not yet but we certainly will.

Roving-eye
was on the spot this time with a few young lads who were enjoying the
fountain in the Princess Diana gardens. A lot of the older people
could be heard tutting but it is hard to expect otherwise when you put a
fountain like this with complete public access.

Skichic
gave us an excellent photo report on the problems skateboarders are having
in Southport at the moment. Pictures taken in Hesketh Park where
Southport's only ramp is a half pipe in need of some repair. The
Southport Visitor was doing a special report.
In case the council don't know how to fix the broken seam, one of our posters Chas
King recommends the following: Remove this thin steel plate and replace
with 6mm plate Grade 43A, place 25mm backing strip under joint section,
prep joint into 30 degree to vertical, weld root in using manual metallic
arc process , sheet off from wind during welding and make sure fusion is
achieved to the backing strip, fill and cap off, grind cap flush. Result;-
full penetration butt weld, safe and strong, will last forever.
