Hi
this is Dave with my Santa hat on and asking "What should you drink
on Christmas Day?" To be honest the answer is as much or as little as
you want. Here I will give you my selections for every part of the day, of
course you don't have to do all of these as you may only wake up the day
after boxing day!
My
times of day are just an indication of what tipples you may enjoy on the
day.
11am
- Champagne your wake up call, or even just make a bucks fizz
1pm
- Manzanilla Sherry to clear the palette
1:30pm
- Moraeu Chablis, glass (or two)
3pm
- Dinner Wine - Start with a White Serentos Chardonnay, follow by a nice
Burgandy, say, Nuits St. Goerge
4pm
- Pudding - Wonderful Tokaji or Eis Wine (both sweet)
5pm
- Cheese - LBV or Ruby Port or a wonderful Barolo or Shiraz
After
a peaceful nap and to finish the night... A malt for the blokes and a
baileys for the ladies.
Have
a very Merry Christmas from Dave and Chris at Portland Wine Cellars, and a
wonderful New Year.
Dave
+ Chris xxx
PS
Don't forget we are open 12-2 on Christmas Day, just in case you forgot
something!

Ramos
Pinto
Port
Traditional Late Bottle Vintage. For the people who want a vintage Port
but without the bother of decanting and also the higher price.
|
|
Ramos
Pinto Superior Tawny

Lighter in style and browner in colour but wow what a Port.
|
|

know what I mean.
|
|
Uitkyk
Sauvignon Blanc 2000
South Africa
Dry clean taste a tad of acidity with a wonderful gooseberry finish.
|
|
Leclerc
Briant Divine 1988
Champagne
This
is his vintage Champagne and like most vintage champagnes is heavier but
does have wonderfully slow bubbles that you just can’t help watching and
relaxing to.
|
|
Chimere
NV
Champagne
Our price fighting house
champagne lacks nothing in quality and is certainly wonderful to taste

Monte
Real 1996
Red
This terrific wine is sourced from San
Vicente de la Sonsierra as well as Cenicero which gives its robustness and
more traditional style.
|
|
Penamonte

Red
An excellent young wine of high quality from
a new and up and coming wine region Toro, which adjoins Rueda on the Duero
west of Valadolid, three months in the barrel and 100% Tempranillo grape.

The delicious characteristics of the native Harslevelu are perfectly
expressed in this wine. Lovely broad peachy aromas, with hints of
honey.

This clean and characterful dry wine is mid yellow in colour and has a
spicy aromatic nose with hints of greengage.

Enough
"Z" Chenin/Chardonnay, Argentina
This variety is a blend of Chenin
(55%) and Chardonnay (45%). With its pale gold colour and fresh
fruity nose, in the mouth it is round, smooth and distinctively crisp.
On the palate it is fresh and citrusy.
|
|
Enough
"Z" Bonarda, Argentina
The Bonarda is a full-bodied deep
red wine. The aroma is of soft red fruits with hints of strawberry
with a round and lingering finish.
|
| December
2000 was a Christmas special |
|
Serentos
Chardonnay (Soft Press)
Serentos is a "soft
press" Chardonnay. This unique method of pressing gently
crushes the grapes without bruising the skin. With no heavy pressing
there is no bitterness or oil to contaminate the juice. Just the
clean fresh taste of pure Chardonnay, considered by many to be the world's
finest wine grape.
|
|
Kingston
Wildlife Mataro/Shiraz
The colour is a rich
red. This wine is a perfect example of the integration of the Mataro
and Shiraz varietal characteristics. Making a complex wine of rich
plum fruit flavours with a hint of spice that lingers on the palate.
|
|
Vin de
Pays de l'aude Blanc Sec
This Blanc Sec wine is a fresh and fruity
dry white wine, elegantly balanced with a good finish. It is based
on the late-ripening Ugni Blanc, but with Chardonnay added this develops
the weight and fruit flavours.
|
|
Vin de
Pays de l'aude Rouge
Donjon de la Tour is deeply
coloured with a rounded fruit flavour which develops well on the palate.
A spicy red with excellent structure - very
similar in character and quality to Merlot.
