| No
one knows more about turf than Turfland |
Here at Turfland, we pride ourselves in our long
established history in producing the finest quality turf, for both
commercial and private use, at an affordable price.
Unlike many of our competitors, Turfland offers a complete
service. This includes intensive research and testing,
cultivation, harvesting, delivery and comprehensive aftercare
services.
We believe this labour intensive operation is time well spent,
because it means that by the time our turf gets to you, it is a
mature, cultivated product that within hours will transform barren
soil into a lush living carpet of established grass.
Not only that, but at Turfland, we harvest all year round, which
means you can lay turf over a much wider period and at times when
seeding would surely fail. We produce three distinct varieties of
turf, each of which have been developed to suit different needs
and functionality. Our experts will gladly advise you as to which
is best for you.
With over 40 years experience in quality turf production behind
us, you can rest assured that with Turfland, you will be buying a
product and service which is, quite simply, second to none.
Visitors -are welcome to view our extensive nurseries by
appointment with our managing partners, Dave and Angle Mackay. In
the meantime, we hope to give you an insight into why Turfland is
widely regarded as one of the U.K.'s premier turf suppliers.
|
|
| What
makes Turfland turf better than other turf? |
Let's start with the soil...
ALL Turfland, turf is grown in Grade 1 soil. Thousands of years
ago, the area which now comprises our Southport nurseries were
submerged under the ocean. As the ocean receded, sand dunes were
whipped up by the winds, turning the area into a vast salt water
lake, which gradually gave way to fresh water. Dying water-life
and plants sank to the bottom, forming a fertile organic base.
When Queen Victoria ascended the throne, all that was left of this
lake was a rich wetland. Being exceptional drainage and water
engineers, the Victorians drained the marshes with a network of
dykes and pumping stations. So was created the most fertile and
productive Grade 1 soil in the country. Turfland's nurseries offer
a choice of soils, from the almost pure sand and mineral soils
found at the shallow edges of the former take, to the rich, dark
organic loams found at its centre. |
 |
Then add the very best seed...
All Turfland, seed mixtures contain the very best, top rated
cultivars available - as recommended by the Sports Turf Research
Institute. We have worked hard over the years to research the most
well balanced blends for both professional and domestic
requirements. |
|
Nurture it..
All our turf is cultivated by a team of experts, using proven
techniques, the very latest sophisticated equipment and unlimited
irrigation. The result is a range of top quality turf to meet any
need. |
|
... and then harvest it with revolutionary
techniques.
Our turf is harvested in lightweight full square metre rolls,
giving you 20% less handling than the square yard rolls harvested
by many other turf suppliers. Our harvesters use floating cutter
heads which ensure uniformity in the width, depth and length of
cut. Rolls are handled only once as they are stacked, thereby
minimising damage through over-handling. We have also eliminated
all the expense and hassle associated with heavy wooden pallets by
using a unique palletless fork system. |
 |
Quality
Control.
Every stack of turf is checked and labelled before being loaded
for delivery. We only cut strictly to order to ensure our
customers always receive freshly harvested turf.
|

| Product Range |
| Our product range is
concise - and with good reason. Turf requirements vary widely in
their application, i.e. football, cricket, golf fairways, greens
and tees, ornamental lawns, utility lawns, amenity areas etc.
However, when put into perspective, grass surface requirements
fall into two distinct categories; hardwearing or fine - with a
few variations on the theme. With a myriad |
|
of products on offer,
choosing the right one to suit your needs can be both confusing
and time consuming. At Turfland, we have already conducted
exhaustive research and can pinpoint which will be the right
product for you. ALL you need to do is let us know your
requirement. Not only that, but we can supply turf in any quantity
- no order is too small or too large. |
| The well-loved SportsmanTM. Famous for its
hardwearing abilities and its attractive sward, SportsmanTM meets the needs of all
sports and amenity areas, plus it can provide any property with a
beautiful garden. |
|
Durable enough to withstand any amount of family use. Turfland,
have worked hard over the years, constantly improving this well
balanced blend of dwarf perennial rye grasses and fescues, to
provide years of wear tolerant use.
|
| Years of research, combined with
listening to what the customer wants from your turf, has led to
the development of a revolutionary new product exclusive to
Turfland. Shade tolerant and easy to maintain, |
|
LawnaTM contains a
unique blend of dwarf perennial rye grass, Kentucky blue grass
and fescues. Only the top rated cultivars are used to give you
the ultimate in multi-purpose low maintenance turf.
|
| Top quality greens turf is hard to come
by but Turfland have the answer with Crown GreenTM . It's absolutely proven - just ask
for references. A blend of cultivars, top rated by the Sports Turf
Research Institute, has resulted in a first class |
|
product. Crown GreenTM will
provide a smooth surface of fine grasses for all bowling greens,
golf greens and ornamental areas. Recommended for professional
use or keen gardeners as it does require high maintenance

knowledgeable and highly enthusiastic team, who together will put
no less than 70,000 hours of dedication into preparing the turf we

erosion for rapid soil stabilisation.
At Turfland, we harvest all year round, which means you can lay
turf over a much wider period and at times when seeding would
surely fail. We produce three distinct varieties of turf, each of
which have been developed to suit different needs and
