Southport's Business Pages - The No 1 Local Online Business Directory on Your No 1 Local Website
Broadband means speed. Fast
unlimited access to the internet. Access to the internet is typically
500k, rather than typically 56k on most computer modems. You have a
permanent connection to the internet 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and
you can still use your phone. You can get broadband via cable but from BT
via ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line), usually using your existing
line.
Why was Ainsdale left out?
Why is Ainsdale the only
exchange in the Southport area without Broadband (ADSL) ?
Why are children in Ainsdale at
a disadvantage with slow internet access?
Why are businesses in Ainsdale
at a disadvantage to those in other areas of Southport?
We don't know why BT
ignored the Ainsdale exchange when they did every other one in Southport.
We do know that that will update the Ainsdale exchange if there is
sufficient demand. How they assessed demand in the first place is beyond
us, you can even get Broadband (ADSL) in Banks with a much smaller
population (no offence to anyone living in Banks!)
What can you do?
BT want at least 400 people to
register for ADSL in the Ainsdale area before taking any other
action. You can do this by registering on the BT website. BT will
then see how many people confirm to real orders for ADSL and then update
the exchange. You can register with other ISP's like Freeserve if you
really hate BT but we recommend that you register direct with BT to get
the registration levels higher as quickly as possible.
To register simply go to www.bt.com/btbroadband
and enter your telephone number under "Can I get BT
Broadband". It will then tell you that it is not available.
Then click on www.bt.com/btbroadband/register
where you can record your interest. You will need your telephone bill
handy as you will need to enter your account number - just the first 2
letters and 8 digits (not the ones after that) eg LC12345678
By registering you are not
giving an order to BT or commitment in any way, you are simply registering
your interest. Please do it now.
The
target is 400 Registrations
Watch how the registration
levels keep clocking on. We will keep updating this page so you can see
the progress. To check the current level click http://www.bt.com/broadband enter
your Ainsdale number or say 01704575370 (our fax) and click on "See
how many have..." at the bottom of the screen.

How else can you help?
Already registered
yourself? You can still help by asking neighbours and local
businesses to register as well. School and college students should
make sure their friends families have registered. Remember, BT won't
do anything until the 400 level is reached.

Southport MP John Pugh supports
the campaign to get ADSL for Ainsdale and has written to BT in the past on
this subject.
What
broadband users say
Don of Linaker Street
says "Broadband is brilliant, I leave it on all day, every day.
Downloading and uploading is just so fast it has to be seen to be
believed, and there are none of those annoying 2 hour
disconnections".
Rick of Duke Street
says "I don't know why I didn't take this up before, the speed is
amazing. One of my sons certainly appreciates it too for gaming. Now my
friends don't get the engaged tone whenever we are on the net as you can
use your phone normally at the same time".
Doris of Curzon Road
says "I have broadband access through cable and accessing sites like
Southport.gb.com is great as all the pictures appear almost
instantaneously".
